The Presidential primaries are closing in fast, and as they approach with no clear front-runners, it is hard to ignore the still large number of candidates. While the two parties present very different platforms, the candidates within each party seem almost indistinguishable.

In the last ten or fifteen years, the internet has opened up a whole new avenue for channeling money, information, misinformation, enthusiasm and power between people and candidates. The accessibility of the internet to large numbers of people means that it could potentially open the floodgates to political involvement across a broad spectrum of the population.

Starting in 2009, the US Mint, in the style of its State Quarter program, will roll out a new series of quarters honoring the District of Columbia and the five US territories. Along with the DC quarter, the Mint will issue coins honoring Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
