"The Mommy War"

Though women have more successful careers than their mothers or their grandmothers could imagine, there still remains the weighty choice of how to balance careers and children. Why are women the only ones who feel the burden of guilt about these decisions? Though wives no longer wear aprons and hair curlers, or remove the casserole from the oven just as their husbands enter the house, has the status of mothers really changed? Or has it simply undergone a superficial makeover? And how will Georgetown students face this question?

The sun was already starting to set, glimmering through the elegant windows of President DeGioia's beautiful office. In such a sophisticated and prestigious setting, even the couches seemed to be judging everyone's etiquette. But as he sat in front of us, looking quite relaxed in his usual chair, President John DeGioia was far from judgmental and anything but stuffy.

Georgetown study finds sharp increase in youth-targeted alcohol ads
In 2001, the alcohol industry spent $780 million dollars on television advertising. In 2005, the industry spent more than $1 billion. The result of this increase: more ads are reaching America's youth, a demographic known for its use and abuse of alcohol. On December 20, 2006, the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY) at Georgetown University released the report "Still Growing After All These Years: Youth Exposure to Alcohol Advertising on Television, 2001-2005.

Early one Thursday afternoon in November, I sat on a bench in the grandiose entrance corridor of Healey Hall. From my locale, with red carpet beneath my feet and chandeliers suspended high above my head, I could see into the office marked 112. At a desk positioned in front of windows that stretch from the floor to the ceiling sits Imam Yahya Hendi.
