There is a lot to do in Georgetown, and even more to do in Washington as a whole. Still, there is another world out there, and the road-trip is a quintessential part of the college experience. Lucky for Hoyas, Washington is very well-situated for such journeys:

Krispy Kreme Alexandria (Nine miles south, about twenty minutes drive time without significant traffic)
There may be no better short, late night stop than the nearby Krispy Kreme. Time the trip right, and hot donuts directly out of the ovens may await. Time it wrong, and you still get the best glazed donuts in the history of mankind. Take this as the starter road-trip.

Baltimore (40 miles north, about one hour)
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is very easy to get to and a great place to party if the weather is right. It may feel a bit too much like home, with Washington stalwarts like J. Pauls, Paolo’s and the Capitol City Brewing Company (what, exactly, is Baltimore the capitol of?), but it is fun. The Inner Harbor’s areas attractions are not only edible; check out the massive aquarium or gorgeous Camden Yards. For the traveler looking for a less costly alternative, the bars at Fells Point have some of the best drink specials around and a ton of college students.

Charles Town, WV (70 miles northwest, about an hour and a half)
Disprove the “There’s nothing but incest and cows in West Virginia — and sometimes both at the same time” myth by visiting Charles Town Races and Slots. Closer to Washington than Atlantic City or Foxwoods, Racing and Slots has no table games, but over 2000 slot machines along with an off-track betting parlor and most of the amenities normally associated with a casino. You can also visit various cultural and nature attractions — or, just stick around the casino. Note: Make sure to head to Charles Town, not the state capital Charleston.

Ocean City (140 miles east, about three hours)
Virginia Beach (200 miles south, about three and a half hours)
